History of Minnehulla Baptist ChurchIn or around the year of 1870, a few Christians under the leadership of Rev. Mitchell Harrison of Dewitt County decided to establish the Minnewee Church. The founders of this church were Sister Almedia Beverly Swaizey and her brother-in-law, George Langley. Sister Swaizey and Brother Langley gave the church its first name, Minnewee Baptist church. This was also the name of a creek that ran some 600 feet away.

The charter members of the Minnewee Church were Sis. Almedia Beverly Swaizey, Bro. George Langley, Frank Wesley, Rebecca Spillman, Patsy Wesley, Willie Langley, Robert Gray, Charlie Shipman and Preston Kay.
In July 1871, the Minnewee Baptist church sent two delegates, Sister Almedia Beverly Swaizey and Sister Emily Moore to the Palestine Baptist church in Victoria, Texas to help organize the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Association.
The Minnehulla church planted five new churches and supported seven small existing churches during Pastor Edwards’ leadership. Minnehulla has remained a strong missionary sending agency. The church has not only sent missionaries across the states but into South America, Spain, Africa, England, Germany, Italy, Bahamas and Canada. The church missionaries have taught in seminaries and universities, conducted vacation bible schools, backyard bible studies, gospel concerts, preaching crusades and prayer walks.
In July of 2007, the church body elected Rev. Ira E. Antoine, Jr., BGCT congregational strategist to serve as an Intentional Interim Pastor. In April 2009, after a period of mourning and prayer, the church body called Dr. Ira E. Antoine, Jr. as its 20th pastor. Under Dr. Antoine’s pastorate, the Minnehulla Church has grown deeper in the spiritual development and has extended its reach throughout the region and state of Texas. Two new church plants were established in 2010 in the Houston area. In 2017, we actively re-engaged in missions aboard. we have sent teams to Mexico to provide training to leaders and evangelizing the local communities. We have partnered with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, WMU of Texas and sister churches in Texas to work with churches in Uganda and Tanzania to equip pastors and leaders as well as support orphanages and women’s ministry.
Minnehulla Baptist Church understands its Mission is to LOVE GOD, LOVE PEOPLE AND IMPACT IT'S COMMUNITY and the WORLD.
